On April 2, 2018, the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office received information of a possible carjacking which was reported to have taken place at a cemetery on Jackson County Road 215 near Nat Mountain.  Jackson County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Chris Hilliard located a suspect vehicle and conducted a traffic stop on Westlawn Drive in Scottsboro, AL., detaining one of the suspects believed to be involved in the carjacking.  During this traffic stop Deputy Hilliard located Drug Paraphernalia, approximately 35 grams of Methamphetamine (Ice) and a .22 caliber hand gun. The driver, Michael Vincent UTECH age 27 of Scottsboro, AL. was arrested and charged with Trafficking in Methamphetamine, Unlawful Possession of Controlled Substances (Methamphetamine), Unlawful Possession Drug Paraphernalia, and Felon in Possession of a Firearm.  UTECH was booked into the Jackson County Jail and remains in custody on a $35,300 bond.

Later the same evening the Scottsboro Police Department contacted the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Unit after they located a second suspect, believed to be involved in the carjacking, on Benson Lane in Scottsboro. Members of the Sheriff’s Narcotics Unit responded and located a small amount of Methamphetamine and Drug Paraphernalia. Charles David CARTER age 37 of Gurley, AL. was arrested and charged with Unlawful Possession of Controlled Substances (Methamphetamine) and Unlawful Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.  CARTER was booked into the Jackson County Jail and remains in custody on a $5,300 bond.
