On Friday September 25, 2015, members of the Jackson County Sheriff's Office Narcotics Unit, Sheriff's Patrol Division, Scottsboro Police Department Investigations and Scottsboro Police Department Patrol Officers executed a search warrant at Collins Food Mart in Scottsboro, AL. As a result of this search, hundreds of pieces of various drug paraphernalia and approximately 100 grams of the controlled substance “Khat” were located and seized. “Khat” is a controlled stimulant which is grown in the Middle East and Africa. This is the first seizure of this substance in the Jackson County/Scottsboro area. Arrested in connection with this investigation was: Ziyad Al-Dabashi age 35 of Scottsboro, AL. who was charged with Unlawful Possession of Controlled Substances (Khat) and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Al-Dabashi was transported to the Jackson County Jail and later released on $4,000 bond. More arrests are anticipated in this investigation.
