On August 3, 2016, the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office received information that a man wanted by Dekalb County for serious felony charges was frequenting a residence on County Road 423 in Dutton, AL. Based on this information, members of the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office and Dekalb County Sheriff’s Office responded to the residence to investigate the information. Upon arrival, a male subject looked out the door and retreated inside the residence locking the door. The outside of the residence was secured at which time Deputies observed marijuana plants growing outside the residence. A search warrant was obtained and after a short standoff, Jonathan Matthew HIGDON, age 42 of Dutton, exited the residence and was taken into custody. During a search of the residence and property, Deputies did not find anyone else present but located and seized a “one pot” methamphetamine lab, methamphetamine, chemicals used to manufacture methamphetamine, controlled pills and drug paraphernalia, along with the previously located marijuana plants. HIGDON was transported to the Jackson County Jail and charged with:

Unlawful Manufacture of Controlled Substances (Methamphetamine);

Unlawful Possession of Methamphetamine;

Unlawful Possession of Marijuana 1st Degree;

Unlawful Possession of Drug Paraphernalia;

Unlawful Possession of Controlled Substances (Pills);

Obstructing Governmental Operations;

Tampering with Physical Evidence.

HIGDON remains in the Jackson County Jail and bond has not yet been set.
